Booked — still reading everything

Called in when the plan meets reality.

Full-stack engineer in Zagreb. Thirteen years across telecom, e-commerce, payments, insurance, accounting SaaS and industrial AI — and my own consultancy since 2020. Started in C, Erlang and Java; today it is Python and Django, TypeScript and React — often in the same week.

Domagoj Knez, full-stack software engineer, Zagreb

01Range

I have never had the luxury of one stack.

Eight companies, seven industries, and a consultancy of my own since 2020. Telecom test automation in C and Erlang. Payment gateways and insurance systems in Java and Spring. A Django microservice fronting core services at FreshBooks. Industrial AI, event ticketing and construction ERP now — Python, Django and FastAPI on one side, TypeScript, React and Next.js on the other.

Different domain, different stack, same job: get useful fast, then ship something the next person can maintain.

01

Domain-agnostic

Telecom, e-commerce, payments, insurance, accounting SaaS, construction ERP, industrial AI. The vocabulary changes; the problem shapes repeat.

02

Whole stack, not half

Django, FastAPI, Node and Hono behind; React, Next.js and Vue in front; Postgres, Docker, Terraform and AWS, Azure or GCP underneath.

03

Leading without leaving the code

Team lead at FreshBooks with two reports, and lead on Tiketti — both while still writing code.

02My own shop

Owner & consultantSince 2020

CoreTech d.o.o.

I take the contract, do the work, and stay accountable for it. Engagements run long: I join as a senior pair of hands, own a slice end to end, and hand back code the next person can read. Four products so far — industrial AI, event ticketing, construction ERP and food ordering.

Earlier — the Abrakadabra e-commerce platform at mStart (2016–2017), and test automation in C and Erlang at Ericsson Nikola Tesla (2013–2016).

Get it built

Python and Django, FastAPI, Node and Hono, TypeScript, React, Next.js, Vue — product surfaces and the services under them.

Keep it standing

AWS, Azure and GCP, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Postgres and MySQL, and CI that people actually trust.

Make it make sense

Design docs, migration plans, ORM and monolith-to-microservice moves, and the conversation where a roadmap gets shorter.
